S.M.Art Questions

Everything you’re probably wondering right now

How do I apply?
Fill out the registration form and send it back with a few images of your work. Artists will be notified within approximately two weeks of submitting their application if they have been selected.

What is the application deadline?
Applications close September 15, 2026, or earlier if all artist spots are filled. Early applications are encouraged.

Do I need to frame my art?

Nope! Framing is totally optional. Pieces are packaged in clear protective sleeves and displayed in browsing boxes. Framed pieces are welcome too, as long as they stay within the size limit (maximum 16” x 20” including the frame).

Is there a size limit?

Yes. The maximum artwork size is 16” × 20” including frame, and all submitted pieces must fit within the artist’s 2 display boxes.

What are the dimensions of the artist display boxes? Display box dimensions: approximately 16” W × 12” D × 10” H.  They’re designed so visitors can comfortably flip through artwork in an easy, hands-on way.

How many pieces can I bring?

Artists may bring up to 30 pieces, provided all artwork fits within their 2 display boxes. Larger or thicker framed pieces may reduce the total number that fit. There’s no strict minimum, but around 10–20 pieces usually creates a nice collection for visitors to browse through.

How will my art be displayed?
Each artist receives up to 2 display boxes for their artwork. Pieces are organized by artist so visitors can flip through them easily, almost like browsing records in a shop. Artists are asked to package their own artwork following our wrapping method video on Instagram. If needed, artists may also book an appointment for help with packaging. Your artist bio will also be displayed with your work.

When do I need to drop off my artwork?
Artwork drop-off appointments will take on October 30th, 31st or November 1st. Selected artists will receive scheduling details and instructions closer to the date.

Can I include business cards?

Absolutely. We encourage it! It’s a great way for people to find you after the event.

What are the price guidelines?

Pieces should be priced between $30 and $300 CAD.
The goal is to keep the event approachable and encourage people to discover original art they genuinely connect with.

Are there any participation fees or commissions?
Yes. There is a $75 CAD registration fee, and S.M.Art retains a 15% commission on sales. As a self-funded non-profit association, these contributions help cover venue rental, packaging materials, signage, promotion, event setup, and future event growth.

What does S.M.Art provide?

We handle pretty much all the setup details:

  • display boxes

  • artist labels

  • signage

  • promotion

  • event setup

You just bring the wrapped art ✨

Can I participate even if I can’t attend in person?

Yes! A few artists participate this way. We’ll display your artwork, bio, and business cards so visitors can still connect with your work throughout the day.

How do payments work?

All purchases are handled through the S.M.Art team during the event.
Artist sales are sent by Interac e-transfer within about 10 working days after the event.

What if I’m registered to collect GST or sales tax?
If you are registered to collect GST or other applicable taxes, these must be included in your listed artwork prices. Artists are responsible for their own tax reporting and remittances.

How is the artwork protected?

Each piece is packaged in a clear protective sleeve to help prevent damage during browsing.

Is artwork insured during the event?
S.M.Art carries liability insurance for the event itself. However, individual artwork is not insured by S.M.Art, and artists are responsible for arranging their own artwork insurance if desired.

Can I sell prints as well as originals?

Definitely. Many artists bring a mix of originals and prints, as long as everything fits within the size and price guidelines.

When is the event?

📍 Saturday, November 7th, 2026
📍 cSPACE Marda Loop – Theatre
🕙 10am–5pm

What makes S.M.Art different?

I’d like the full picture. Is there an artist guide?
